January 24th will see the release of Relaxed Machinery’s 4th year anniversary, and to celebrate, the label is releasing a compilation album titled ‘reBOOT’. It features current RM artists, including myself, Frore, Steve Brand, Apne Sinn, Loren Nerell, Eyes Cast Down, Robert Scott Thompson, and many others. Having listened to it already, let me tell you, it’s absolutely fantastic. It’s an honour for me to share an artist roster with such heavy-hitters in the ambient realm, and I’m very excited for what’s in store for Relaxed Machinery in 2014.
The album will be played in it’s entirety January 25th on from 3pm-5pm Pacific time on Rebekkah Hilgraves’ show, ‘At Waters Edge’. She will also be interviewing Relaxed Machinery’s label head and benevolent dictator, John Koch-Northrup. Many rM artists will also be in the chat room to interact with listeners and answer any questions you may wish to ask them. (I won’t be able to attend due to a scheduling conflict.)
In other news, after nearly 2 years and multiple delays, I’m finally starting to close in on the last 25% or so of a new album, this time a collaboration. More details on this to come, but I’m hoping to have it completed by April. I would describe the sound as quite a bit softer and overall much lighter in tone than previous releases, I’m very excited about this release and must apologize to all my listeners about the many delays on this album, it’s been a tough year.…
The cooler fall weather means that soon life as I know it will be over. The winters in my part of Canada are crushing, with extremely cold temperatures, 5 hours of sunlight per day, and snow piled up higher than the roof of your car. While winter here can be soul-destroying for me, for Broken Harbour fans it means you’ll be getting new music out of it, because I don’t like to go outside between October and April. At all.
Recently a fan contacted me to tell me that I haven’t updated the site since March (Yikes, he’s right, how embarrassing.) and he wanted to know what Broken Harbour has been up to musically since then. Well I’ve nearly wrapped up a collaboration that will be officially announced soon, some of my previously released music will be featured in a documentary film and I recorded a brand new track this year for a compilation album. All 3 of these projects should see a release in 2014. Stay tuned for an official announcement on these soon.
Thanks to a computer failure, I had the er… opportunity to rebuild my studio, and a new iMac now calls Studio 304 home. (By the way Gigabyte, your motherboards suck!) With that brings a switch to Logic 9, and a huge learning curve, luckily I’m not too challenged when it comes to computers. So far it’s mostly intinuitive, and some new material I’m working on sounds great.
I recently started a Twitter feed, so if your interested in what I had for breakfast, follow me. Also, I might actually post news and / or ramblings about Broken Harbour, in 140 characters or less. I promise I’ll try to be interesting.
brokenharbour.ca is currently in the process of getting a slight update, please excuse the mess, I still have to fix a few features that don’t work and a background that won’t display correctly.
That is all for now. Thank you for your continued support, Broken Harbour is currently riding a big wave of momentum, and I have you to thank for it.…
